Nominations for executive positions can also be made at the meeting itself.

Mike Rossiter: Commodore

I am running for Commodore again to build on the work the executive has accomplished over the last two years. We have made good progress in terms of club improvements: the new barge is operational, our permanent deck canopy has been installed, and our mast crane is operating. Next year we need to insure that our cart is fully operational, and we hope to make improvements on our docks to address space for dinghies and depth for slips. These have been the major issues to address over the last number of years and we are well on our way to having solved all of them. Financially, the club is in a good position to start building up our reserve fund again, and our docking fees will stabilize after being behind inflation for a number of years. In terms of governance, the club has newly enacted bylaws, and the amendments to our Articles of Incorporation have been accepted by the Ontario Government so that we are now fully compliant with the Ontario Not For Profit Corporations Act. We must now continue to work on our policies so that operations and rules outside of the bylaws are clear for all and ensure that the club runs smoothly. My job as commodore, if I am re-elected, is to continue to work with the executive to build on the progress we have made at the club that I love, and make APSC strong and secure in our place in the Toronto sailing community.

Gregory Graham: Membership Director

I would be honored to again serve as APSC's Membership Director for the 2024 sailing season.  I have held this position for a number of years now.  During my tenure, I have played a role in establishing the Fleet Boat class of membership and the Paddlecraft class of membership with a view to broadening the Club's appeal to a wider audience and strengthening the Club generally.  I believe both of these two new additions to the Club have been an enormous success (thanks in large part to the Fleet Captain (Adam Melanson and before Adam, Bill Hutton) and to our Member-at-Large, Tim Kirkwood).  I would be happy to carry on as your Membership Director

Slawomir Domurat: House and Grounds

I guess by now everyone in our club knows how dedicated I am towards making things better at our unique club settings. For the last three years that I am a director of H&G we as a club renovated our clubhouse , washrooms, added a storage shed, upgraded our solar system, added racks for paddlers in our dinghy compound and added the latest construction marvel: the new deck roof. I will continue to improve our facilities (providing we have enough budget for next year to spend…) if you still want me as the H&G director.

Happy New Year to everyone and see you soon on the water…

Katie Grundy: Treasurer

I'm planning to run again this year for Treasurer. For those who haven't met me yet I'm Katie, I love to sail, and I had the pleasure of serving as APSC Treasurer for 2023. In my non-sailing life I recently finished my master's at U of T and now work as a Nurse Practitioner. I've previously held various board positions in student organizations including Financial Director of a non-profit, and I now have 1 year of experience under my belt as APSC Treasurer. I think with the knowledge I've gained this year I can continue to be of service to this club we love so much. I know we accomplished a lot this past year but I also know it will be important to rebuild our financial reserves in 2025, so conscientious spending will be all the more important. Thanks for your support and I hope for your vote!

Fred Chevalier:  Race Director

I am thrilled to express my candidacy for the position of Race Director. Over the past two years, I’ve had the privilege of serving as Race Director and have witnessed firsthand the incredible dedication and passion of our sailing community.

With the exceptional teamwork of our racers, committee boat, and volunteers, we’ve had a journey of thrilling Wednesday races, weekend long races, and delightful dinners filled with laughter and shared tales of our Great Lake.

I humbly ask for your trust and the opportunity to continue leading our race program, and together, we’ll create yet another remarkable season on the water.

Fair winds and boundless enthusiasm,

Brian Burchell: Harbourmaster

I am proud of what we have been able to achieve this past year and have high hopes for 2025 and wish to continue in the role.
The harbourmaster portfolio requires considerable organization, vigilance, and collaboration with others.
With a new barge delivered in 2024 we are still working out the kinks to help it realize its full potential. That said, it’s operational and a good number of moorings were inspected and serviced in 2024. More engineering work on the barge will be completed before docks-in this year which will permit a more fulsome mooring service in 2025. Thanks to Slav from House and Grounds we took a large delivery (all free!) of new replacement mooring blocks this year.
Together with Slav I am working to extend the docks system away from shore to address the low water issues we seem to be impacted by in late summers. A harbour-led team addressed serious weed issues in 2024, which we may have to revisit this year.
The mooring field is never a constant. Moorings move with due to ice, or sometimes disappear altogether. Members leave or buy new, often bigger, boats and must be accommodated. It can be a puzzle to get to fit together safely each season, but we have managed to keep up to 100 boats from colliding in the night, or in high winds. Members have a right to expect their boats are safe. That is our constant goal.
I maintain a database of each mooring and its service history. A lot of what matters in this role is 20 feet underwater!
The harbour portfolio is impossible to do without a team. I am very thankful to former harbourmaster Barna Morniz who has been an instrumental “chief of the boat”. Many more club members have been barge crew to help make our work effective and safe, I am grateful to each of them. And to be honest, this work is fun!

Tim Kirkwood - Member at Large

I am looking to return this season, with your approval, to the role that may seem mysterious:

Member-at-Large.

Loosely defined as being the member who represents the club to city and community agencies such as city council, on the board of the Outer Harbour Sailing Committee, and occasionally with the TRCA.

When I began in this role over 6 years ago, APSC was about to begin negotiating a new 5-year license with the TRCA.

It was clear that we needed some help as the relationship we had with our landlords needed some support. I reached out to our city councilor Paula Fletcher, with whom I’ve worked on several community projects. She recommended a lawyer to represent us, which was a brilliant move.

Jennifer King, with the help of Councilor Fletcher and her staff, got us a 5 year license and the respect we felt we deserved as tenants. Since then, our relationship has improved immensely, as our Commodore would attest, as we look to renew it for another 5 years this season.

However, the role of M.A.L. has not required much activity in the community-at-large in recent years, so I have taken on some projects to help with other tasks:

The Paddlers contingent for example, and maintaining the dinghy compound.

This season I wish to continue with that, including restoring the oar shed and bringing the paddlers into our fold, encouraging them to try sailing as crew members in the Wednesday races, for example.

I want to help beautify the property by incorporating some native tall grasses in clumps along the shoreline wall. I would welcome any help on that front ( pardon the pun).

I hope I have your confidence and support. Thank you.

Nick Scibner: Duty Officer

Would be pleased if the members would elect me once again as Cheif Duty Officer. We had a tough season to keep the cart going last year in its state. Now with a good overhaul I will continue to a a good preventative maintenance scheme to keep the cart running smoothly. Will continue to monitor and prompt member to get out for Duties and Shuttle. Maintain log book stationary amongst other things.

Will also volunteer to help with some social events.

Would be honored if re-elected!

Daniel Aufgang: Communications

I am excited to continue to serve as Communications Director for the Aquatic Parking Sailing Club. In this role, I will maintain the website, send emails to our members, assist with social events, and manage general outreach efforts. Additionally, I plan to host monthly activities at the clubhouse in collaboration with the TRCA to increase awareness of our club and foster a stronger community.
